Be verbs in Marathi
Be verbs show “action” or “state of a being”.
” I am a doctor.My job is to look for tumors in my patients’ stomachs’. My patients are all very nice. They are very supporting. They allow me to write this website while doing surgeries. Once, I was performing a surgery to save my patient’s life. He told me to go out and bring his family members inside. I brought them . They all were very angry when they saw I was not doing any surgery. Because I was writing this text.I showed them that all red words in this text are “Be” Verbs.”
Be verbs are very boring and English language is full of them. Is, are, am, was, were, aren’t, ain’t, wasn’t, weren’t …………
In present tense we use : am/is/are
and in past tense we use : was/were
Marathi equivalent of am/is/are is “आहे” . It looks very similar to ” है” in Hindi.
and
The Marathi equivalent of was -were is होता / होती.
होता is used when you are describing a Masculine object and “होती” while describing a feminine object. This has 1:1 correspondence with था / थी of Hindi.

Quiz Ques 2: Which one is correct for Male “मी डॉक्टर होता” or “मी डॉक्टर होतो” ?

“होतो” is not explained in this lesson but “होता”, so what is the rule for using “होतो” instead of “होता”? Is it for 1st person singular number only?
1st person मी होतो.(singular) आम्ही होतो.(plural)
2nd person तू होतास.(singular) तुम्ही होतात.(plural)
3rd person तो होता (singular)
ती होती(singular) ते होते.(plural)
ते होते (singular)

From dictionary I’ve found that: were = होते
So is it not used in speaking?

Here ते is used for Neuter right? So can डॉक्टर be Neuter?
No Leon. The doctor can’t be Neuter. “te doctor hote” is grammatically correct but logically wrong.
whats the difference between ‘hoto’ and ‘aahe’…..does hoto mean ‘hun’ in hindi and ‘aahe’ mean ‘hai’ ???? is ‘me doctor aahe’ correct ??
hoto means “thaa” in hindi and aahe means hain.
mee doctor aahe means I am doctor
mee doctor hoto means I was doctor
can you please help me out with these words: असून, असली/असले, असलेले .
i feel these are also ‘be verbs’. please give its meaning or uses with examples.
esp. in these sentences:
१. पानाचा रंग हिरवा “असून” ती खूप छान असतात
२. ती कार्यात “असली” तरी…
३. …..नामस्मरण चालेले “असले” पाहिजे.
४. माझ्या प्राध्यापक “असलेले” वडील .

“asane” is used when you are talking about facts or universal truths.
e.g. (suryaa aakaashat asto) means Sun is in the sky.
(to nehmi kaam karat aasto) = He always works.

Both the sentences are correct.
Use of hee/tee depends on the distance between you and the person you are referring.
hee laloochi patni aahe = this is lalo’wife
tee laloochi patni aahe=that is lalo’s wife.
though both sentences mean she is lalo’s wife.

‘आप और तुम’ सर्वनाम को मराठी में किस तरह प्रयोग किया जाता है ? कुछ उदाहरण दीजिये।
tum = tu (informal case)
aap= tumhee (formal case)
“तुम्ही” शब्द हिन्दी का “हम” यानी बहुवचन है। लेकिन हिन्दी में “आप” तो एकवचन में प्रयोग होता है।

Your doubt is obvious but you should not compare two languages. You may not find replacement of each word.
In Marathi,
tu can be used in informal cases
tumhee or aapan can be used in formal cases.
tumhee or aapan are the honorific pronouns the way aap is in Hindi

“paaool” means a step.
“pratyek paaool pragatikade” is “Each step toward development”

And how do I say “This is a lotus”?
Is it Hee Kamal aahe or Hey Kamal aahe
He kamal aahe (Kamal is masculine)
